Rolex GMT-Master watches are the first ever to display two time zones. They have been introduced in 1954 as a result of a conjoining effort between Rolex and Pan-Am Airways. The idea was to provide the Pan-Am pilots with a watch that is able to keep track of multiple time zones while traveling through different continents in long flights. The additional hour hand of these watches keeps track of the second time zone by rotating once in every 24 hours. The bezel is marked with 0 to 23 hours with the GMT hand pointing to it. Over the years there have been a few additions to the family mostly in the 1980’s. These later models can display three time zones as the GMT hand is separated from the hour hand there.
Prevalent in popular culture, these watches have been preferred by historical figures like the legendary revolutionist Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, world famous cyclist Lance Armstrong, NASCAR winning racing driver Jeff Gordon, renowned Hollywood star Dustin Hoffman and the list goes on. They have even appeared in Bond movies in the 60s.
Different models of these watches come in different colors; some of them have multicolor bezels as well. All of them are equally elegant and classy. Because of their overwhelming popularity, these watches have been replicated in huge numbers around the globe. While these spurious watches may not function as immaculately as the genuine ones, they would cost you very little nevertheless. Not surprisingly enough, a Rolex GMT-Master fake watch is quite specious, and is set to deceive anyone into thinking that it is the real deal. Considering their price and strikingly similar outlook, these watches are bound to make any cash strapped Rolex enthusiast happy.
